First established in 1992 by the traders of picturesque New Street and Friar Street, the Worcester Victorian Fayre has grown into one of the region’s most loved festive events. Though it’s bigger than ever, the Fayre remains true to its traditional roots, filled with Victorian characters, festive treats, and that unmistakable seasonal atmosphere. This year, almost 200 stalls will fill the city centre with local arts and crafts, delicious street food, and unique Christmas gifts. Alongside the wonderful stalls, enjoy a full programme of entertainment. Meet colourful Victorian characters in Gin Lane, marvel at towering stilt-walkers, and enjoy fantastic live music on our stages—plus buskers bringing every street corner to life. There truly is something for everyone—so wrap up warm, step back in time, and soak up the magic of Worcester at Christmas! Fayre Opening Times Thursday 4 December 12:00 – 21:00 (Market); 12:00 – 22:30 (Funfair) Friday 5 December 11:00 – 21:00 (Market); 11:00 – 22:30 (Funfair) Saturday 6 December 10:00 – 20:00 (Market); 10:00 – 22:30 (Funfair) Sunday 7 December 11:00 – 17:00 (Market); 11:00 – 17:00 (Funfair)
Stilt Walkers - These lofty fellows have been entertaining our crowds since the very beginning of the event in 1992 and we are delighted to welcome them back this year. Look out for them roaming around as various characters, performing splendid juggling and witty banter as they go. They will be performing at all four days of the Fayre Sherlock and Watson - Stilt-walking super sleuths Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson will be investigating the implausible and solving some complex crimes around the streets of Worcester. See them Saturday 6 December at various times of the day. Temperance Movement - Beware of our Temperance lady as she tries to get you to sign the pledge in denouncing the demon drink. She has the skills to sneak up on you when you least expect it, and will use her wit and charm to make you leave the fun and festivities behind. Is she really as loyal to the cause as she suggests? Find her on Sunday 7 December 11am – 3pm. Scrooge - See if you can spot Scrooge as he meanders and moans his way through the festivities of the fair. It takes a brave person to wish him a Merry Christmas…. Are you up to that challenge? Take a photo with him and see if you are the lucky individual that captures a smile upon his face. Find Scrooge on Sunday 7 December 11am – 3pm. Worcester Re-Enactors – History in Worcester is being brought back to life during the Victorian Fayre by Worcester Re-Enactors. The group portray all periods and all nations, not only the military prowess of the era, but life and times of normal people – be they Roman, Medieval, Victorian or recent past. You will find them in various locations during the Fayre promoting their Living History in Worcester event on 21 and 22 February. For more information visit www.worcesterreenactors.co.uk
Step back into the mischievous world of Gin Lane! Once home to alley dwellers, pickpockets, and musical mischief-makers, this infamous Victorian alleyway returns to life, filled with laughter, and lots of mischief. Wander down The Shambles and seek out our hidden lane, where hawkers and flower sellers mingle with magicians and street performers. Produced by Clik Clik Collective, Gin Lane brings together a host of local artists and performers to recreate the sights and sounds of a bygone age. Join ‘Play It Again Dan’ (Dan Bramhall) at the piano as he revives the spirit of the old music halls, while ‘Lee’s Fleas’ and the mischievous urchins from Worcester Theatre Makers provide endless entertainment. Find them in the alley between New Street and The Shambles: Friday 5 December: 5pm – 9pm Saturday 6 December: 4pm – 8pm
